Behind the Brand

How I Got Started

I love bread. I mean, I’ve never met someone who doesn’t… but if you have, you’ll have to let me know! Everything about bread is satisfying to me. The feel of the dough, the smell, the pillowy texture as it pulls apart, and of course the taste! I’ve always been known for being the person who brings bread to the potluck and Christmas party – like, since I was a kid!

In 2019 my husband and I moved to Texas, away from our family in Colorado. In 2020 we had our son, Oakland and it was really hard. Like, really hard. Being a first time mom with family far away… sucks. Some of you know exactly how that feels – you get it.

Thankfully my local friend, Kayleen, who also happens to be from CO, generously shared some of her starter with me, and I am proud to say it’s still going! Just in case you’re curious, it’s name is starter – aka, it doesn’t have a name. If you choose to name yours, more power to you.

Now that I had a well established starter, I had to learn how to actually make the bread, and the learning process was rough. Many loaves came out flat or just, not that great. As I got better, I started selling the loaves to help cover the cost of my new hobby. Many people who purchased loaves from me asked if I would teach them how. I watched more YouTube videos, read more blogs, and with lots of trial and error, I finally started figuring it out. Bread By Hope was formed and I started teaching classes!

I am so proud of my students and the loaves they are baking! Honestly, most of the loaves my students bake are better than any of the first hundred I made. I’m not kidding!

THE JOURNEY TO

Bread by Hope

I have always loved making bread and just everything about bread itself! From the feel of the dough, to the pillowy texture as it pulls apart. And of course, the taste!

My son was born in 2020 and it was a roller coaster experience. Some highs, and a lot of lows. I wouldn’t say I had PPD, but I definitely had a lot of anxiety. My husband and I had just moved away from our families and he was starting his own business. Long story short, I needed a new hobby to help me feel like ‘me’ again.

It was a challenge to learn the art of sourdough through watching YouTube videos (over and over and over again) and reading blogs. I am very competitive, so I enjoyed the challenge but there were many times I wished I had more help! In 2022, I formed Bread By Hope to help you through the learning process.
